The Clark's model #300 is for all intent and purpose, the original Water Scout. It's original concept and design dates to the early years of the Clark company and is thought to be around 1928. Nicknamed, "The STREAM CLEANER", this little 2 1/4" dynamo of a bait became instantly popular due to its great success as a shallow water crank-bait and its ability to run true in swift currents. It was available in both a "junior" size (2") or large size (2 1/4"). Many believe that the smaller 1 7/8" - 2" models are the original #100s and #200s even though they were produced later than the #300s.(and now I have the proof..CLICK HERE). The #300 pictured above is in a yellow shore pattern and is an excellent example of this bait in E+ condition. The #300 was made from approximately 1928 to 1949, making it the focal point of the Clark line. The #400 Water Scout was introduced around 1940 and was the slow-sinking model eqivilent. Click on the links below to see examples of a#400 in a green frogspot pattern and a red/white Little Eddie in a sinking model. The red spot on the tail of the bait denotes a sinking model. Sorry, it is barely visable on the #400. For another look at an original promo page of one of Clarks catalogs, CLICK HERE. Colors varied tremendously over the years and one never knows what color combinations they might find. For more information on all of the Clark bait line, please click HERE Have questions?
