Shadows on the wall ~ whisper
words the masses don't comprehend.
Announcing to the aware:
time to take cover!

Shadows on the wall ~ moan
in muted tones grief the uncomprehending don't fathom
Grieving for what was meant to be
but was stolen from the people.

Shadows on the wall ~ sigh
silently to themselves.
Words only they can comprehend
and the aware vaguely understand.

Shadows on the wall ~ wish to shout
but realize it is hopeless.
The nation is finished as a republic or democracy
and will never rise again.
